Rectangular and circular flood sources

Effective scintigraphy intepretation necessitates verifying the image quality and spectrometric performance of gamma cameras. LEA produces circular and rectangular flood sources designed for use close to a gamma camera head to verify the uniformity of response of the camera system (including collimator, scintillation detector, photomultiplier tubes and electronic data acquisition system) and check nominal settings.

  • Rectangular sources

Rectangular sources contain cobalt 57, and are suitable for use with all types of gamma cameras with a rectangular field of view.
Contact LEA regarding sources with smaller
dimensions. LEA's rectangular sources have an ergonomic design for ease of maneuver, handling and storage. They are provided with two side handles for lifting, enabling contact with the active area to be avoided. Two models (one in an anodized aluminum housing, the other in a lighter plastic case that cuts its weight from 7.3 kg to 4.3 kg) are available without handles for gamma cameras unable to accommodate sources with handles.

  • Circular sources

LEA offers circular sources containing a choice of two radionuclides :

    • barium 133, which emits gamma photons of 356 keV, very close to the energy of iodine 131 (364 keV),
    • cobalt 57, which emits gamma photons of 122 keV, close to the energy of technetium 99m (140 keV).

Sources are classified as “sealed sources”, and are approved under classification C22212 in accordance with AFNOR NF M61-002, ISO 2919.
