Gamma wire sources

Gamma wire sources are designed for fuel cycle applications. Various radionuclides are available (barium 133, europium 152, cobalt 60, cesium 137), and a mixture of radionuclides is available on request.

• Technique

Gamma wire sources comprise a flexible polyethylene catheter containing the radionuclide set in a polymerized thermosetting resin. The catheter is inserted in a stainless steel sheath placed inside an external plexiglass sleeve to ensure leaktightness.
The active part can be up to 730 mm in length, according to user requirements.
The active diameter is 1.77 mm, the outside diameter 8 mm.
Total activity of between 200 kBq and 10 MBq can be supplied according to requirements.
Linear uniformity is monitored using an NaI(TI) detector every 2 cm.
The standard deviation of the distribution over all measuring points is less than 5%.
Sources are supplied in a shielded wooden case.
