Multigamma ray standard solutions
Multigamma ray standard solutions are characterized in terms of photon flux per unit mass within 4 pi sr (expressed in s-1.g-1). The energies of the gamma lines used as reference are also certified. The specific activity is stated.
For energy and efficiency calibration of NaI(TI) or Ge detectors, LEA recommends the following radionuclides or radionuclide mixtures :
- Europium 152, in the 122 à 1 408 keV energy range,
- Baryum 133 in the 30 à 400 keV range,
- Mixture of radionuclides (241Am, 109Cd, 57Co, 139Ce, 51Cr, 113Sn, 85Sr, 137Cs, 60Co, 88Y) n the 60 à 1 836 keV range.
The solutions are supplied in sealed ampoules. Solutions with high specific activities are supplied in capped vials for ease of handling. Multigamma ray standard solutions for environmental monitoring offer the following features :
low activity concentrations in large volumes, approximating experimental conditions, packaging enabling the standard to be used without opening the container for calibration of NaI(TI), Ge(Li) and Ge-HP detectors.
